Bangladesh Narrows Gap with China in EU Apparel Exports

Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) exports to the European Union rose sharply by 23.98% during the first four months of 2025, reaching $8.07 billion—up from $6.51 billion during the same period in 2024.

Export volume increased by 19.71%, accompanied by a 3.57% rise in average unit price.

In comparison, China’s apparel exports to the EU grew by 21.49%, totaling $8.39 billion, with unit prices up by 7.37%.

The data, sourced from Eurostat—the statistical office of the European Union—also shows that the EU’s total apparel imports rose by 14.21% year-on-year, amounting to $32.49 billion.

Bangladesh remains the EU’s second-largest apparel supplier but is rapidly closing the gap with China in both value and volume.

This growth is attributed to factors such as post-pandemic demand recovery, competitive pricing, enhanced compliance and sustainability practices, and favourable trade conditions for Bangladesh.
